The Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center's Digestive Endoscopy Unit is a specialized area where comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures are performed. Specially trained board certified endoscopists and nursing staff are available.

The aim of the Digestive Endoscopy Unit is to provide high quality endoscopic services to all patients. It is a tertiary referral unit that offers all modern state of the art diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures so as to provide the highest quality of care in an efficient, compassionate and friendly manner to all patients.

In addition to the usual diagnostic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopic examinations and endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP), specialized endoscopic therapeutic procedures performed in the endoscopy unit include:

1. Bleeding hemostasis using injection therapy, variceal glue injection, hemoclip, endoloop and rubber band ligation (RVL).

2. Snare polypectomy and endoloop deployment for large polyp.

3. Endoscopic dilatation- achalasia, benign and malignant strictures.

4. Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube insertion (PEG).

5. Removal of foreign body.

6. Endoscopic naso-jejunal tube insertion.

7. Metal stent insertion for malignant strictures.

8. Therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography-sphincterotomy; stone extraction using balloon or basket; sphincteroplasty; plastic and metal stent insertion; nasobiliary tube insertion; metal stenting of malignant strictures and bleeding hemostasis.

The latest addition to the Digestive Endoscopy Unit is the single balloon small bowel enterosocpy wherein the previously unexplored small bowel can now be easily visualized. Therapeutic procedures can likewise be performed immediately during the Enteroscopy- Injection Therapy, Hemoclip and Endoloop for bleeders; Polypectomy.


Hours of Service: 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., Monday – Saturday Except Sunday and Holidays Emergency Procedures, 24 Hours, Seven Days A Week
