Cardiac Rehabilitation Section

CGH CARES Opens

By Dr. Emily M. Viudez

As early as 1968, the World Health Organization (WHO) sought to underscore the inherently holistic goals of cardiac rehabilitation by descriptively defining it as a “process” involving the restoration of cardiac patients to an optimal status.  Over the ensuing years, the said definition—while allowing for refinement and nuance—has remarkably stayed an ideal, and continues to subtly advocate for an integrated approach to cardiac health care over isolated treatments.

A long-standing proponent of holistic health care in the Philippines, the Heart Institute of the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center, through the initiative of hospital medical director Dr Alfonso Chan and institute director and founder Dr Dy Bun Yok, recently opened its own Cardiac Rehabilitation Section (CGH CARES) both as an institutional acknowledgment and response to the growing acceptance of cardiac rehabilitation as vital to treating patients with cardiovascular disease.

With the multi-disciplinary approach adopted by its team of exemplary-trained rehabilitation cardiologists, headed by Dr Helen Ong Garcia, and healthcare professionals composed of nurses and physical therapists, CGH CARES aims to reduce cardiovascular risks in patients, prevent secondary cardiac events, and improve clinical outcomes and quality of life. Equipped with world-class facilities, CGH CARES is intended to serve as an ideal venue for patients to recover from serious cardiac events, such as heart attacks, bypass and heart valve surgeries and coronary intervention procedures.

CGH CARES offers highly competitive rates for its services and provides affordable packages for surgical and non-surgical cases, covering both in-patient and out-patients programs.

CGH CARES is located on the Second (2nd) Floor of the Main Building of the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center, 286 Blumentrit St, Sta Cruz,  Manila, and is open Mondays to Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  For more information, you may call Tel. No. 711-4141 local 543, or 743-2023.
