Training Program

The Fellowship program is divided into two levels, namely:

            Level 1:    Junior Fellow ................................     1 year
            Level 2:    Senior Fellow ................................     1 year

Level 1 or Junior Fellowship involves the acquisition of knowledge and skills of the basic principles of Pulmonary Physiology and Diseases.

Level 2 or aims to develop in the trainees the sense of confidence to use the fundamentals learned in the first level consequently achieving competence in decision-making and practical aspects of the specialty. This level similarly intends to make the Senior Fellow responsible for taking his/her subordinates, other paramedical personnels, and also involve in administrative functions. He is required to involve in research studies.

Duties and Responsibilities

For the 1st year Fellows go on 24 hours duty every other day for 2 months; then every 3 days thereafter.

For the 2nd year Fellows, the same schedule as above. However, they are always ‘on call” during the “off duty” period.

1.  Take part in the educational program of the Chinese General Hospital Department of Medicine.

2.  Responsible for giving lectures to medical interns, residents, respiratory therapists and ICU nurses.

3.  Attend all weekly subspecialty conferences and lectures.

4.  Assist and supervise the Medical Residents with regards to pulmonary referrals.

5.  Handle and follow up all referred patients on mechanical ventilation.

A. Junior Fellow

B. Senior Fellow

Critical Care Unit        6 months
Special diagnostic procedure:

1. Biopsy under fluroscopy, ultrasound and CT scan guidance   
2. Hemodynamics and Swan-Ganz Catheterization        4 months

Rehabilitation Program and sleep disorders            2 months
